Century-Old Maine Golf Course Catches Fire After Storm

Firefighters from several communities in northern York Country and from neighboring departments in New Hampshire fought a blaze at Province Lake Golf Club overnight.

Fire swept through the clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant according to a Province Lake Golf Club social media posting early this morning.

Firefighters from Parsonsfield, Newfield, Limerick, Cornish, Acton, Shapleigh and the Ross Corner Fire Company in Maine and Wakefield (New Hampshire) Fire Department were called to help, whether by fighting the fire or providing station coverage.

“Like many of you we either went to bed or woke up with the horrible news that fire had swept through the PLG Clubhouse, Pro Shop and Restaurant,” according to the statement by the club.

We shed a lot of tears, huddled together and watched as fire ravaged our second home.

Standing in the snow watching a fire rip away what we have worked so hard for and cherish took pieces of us with it.”
