Golf Pro Taught Many

Witt was the golf professional at Cress Creek Country Club in Naperville from the time it opened in 1963 until 1993, teaching hundreds of members how to improve their games.

Witt shared his knowledge with countless other golfers on a part-time basis, providing instruction at the White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville and at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton.

Witt then began pursuing a career as a professional golfer, while also working as an assistant golf professional at several clubs in suburban Cook County, his son said.

Witt signed on as Cress Creek’s first golf pro in 1963.

Bill Erfurth, the retired golf pro at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, recalled Mr.

Witt’s regular participation in golf events that were put on by the Illinois PGA.

“First and foremost, he would start by meeting people where they were at with their golf game and show them that there was tremendous potential there,” David Witt said.
