Horror injury to Luke Shaw overshadows huge win for PSV

Sadly for PSV, the football headlines after their shock win over Manchester United were dominated by the grief that football fans and players alike felt for the unfortunate Luke Shaw, who was stretchered off in Tuesday night’s Champions League match with a suspected double leg break, following a brash challenge by Hector Moreno.

The 20-year-old United full back received extensive treatment on the Philips Stadion pitch for ten minutes, before paramedics removed him on a stretcher – with Shaw receiving oxygen whilst leaving the ground.

Shaw has been in brilliant form in the early stages of this season for both country and club. The injury marks a bitter blow for England manager Roy Hogdson and his Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal too. Shaw had played both of England’s European Championship qualifiers last week against San Marino and Switzerland, but it was against good opposition in Switzerland when he showed his true potential.

Shaw won’t have been far away from the Philips Stadion when he logged on to Twitter to update his fans with this message: “Thank you everyone for your messages, words can’t describe how gutted I am, my road to recovery starts now, I will come back stronger.”

As if the injury to Shaw, which looks to have put the youngster on the sidelines for a lengthy period of time wasn’t enough – United also managed to squander a one-goal advantage, eventually losing the match 2-1.

Memphis Depay opened the scoring against the club he left in the summer with 41 minutes of the game gone, and United looked like they would hold that lead going into half time – only for Moreno to head in from a corner in first half injury time.

Luciano Narsingh then dealt United a sucker blow with 57 minutes on the clock, as he headed home the winner.

Without Luke Shaw in the squad, and following the loss on Tuesday – United’s odds have lengthened on them becoming the European champions this season, according to the majority of bookies, comparison sites such as Bookies.com show you can now get odds as long as 28/1 with totesport, betfred and sportingbet where as prior to the PSV match Man United were much more fancied in the outright markets.

Bookies, who offer the latest betting previews – from Tiger Woods to Thomas Muller, you can be sure to find what you’re looking for, and free bet offers too. They are reporting that United can now be backed at around 25/1 to become the winners.

Manchester United face Wolfsburg at Old Trafford at the end of September (30th) in what will already be a game the team are looking to salvage their Champions League campaign. Despite tonight’s loss, United are still the preferred team to win Group B with the bookies.
