Marino Parascenzo still as active as ever

Since retiring as the golf writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 1999, Parascenzo, 85, now covers golf as a freelancer.

Open has returned to Oakmont for the ninth time, and like millions of golf fans across the world, Parascenzo can’t wait to see how the best players in the world fare on what arguably ranks as the most challenging golf course in the world.

“Oakmont 100 Years” vividly details everything about the club, from its orgin, to the famous Church Pews sand bunkers, to those lightning fast greens, to all the major club championship and major professional events played there.

Since the first issue, Parascenzo’s book was revised “Oakmont 100 Years” once already to include the 2007 U.S.

Parascenzo will be covering this year’s U.S.

Parascenzo’s still covers most events he covered while working full time.

While Parascenzo said Jack Nicklaus’ victory in the 1986 Masters perhaps was his most favorite golf event of his career, he also cherishes his professional relationship with Arnold Palmer, the legend from Latrobe.

Over the years, Parascenzo has won more than 20 national writing awards as well as many state and regional awards.

Last year, he was by Augusta National Golf Club with its Masters Major Achievement Award.

Open returns to Oakmont, Parascenzo will be one of four inductees into the West Penn Golf Association’s 2016 Hall of Fame.
