MLB Four Outs In One Inning – Challenge

Louis Cardinals pitcher Bob “Hoot” Gibson, Hall of Famer, eight time All Star, nine time Golden Glove Award winner, named MVP in 1968 and six times in the running.

Gibson was recorded for four outs in his game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, June 7, 1966, in the fourth inning retiring Jerry Lynch, Jim Pagliaroni, Bill Mazeroski, Don Cardwell; however, they were not struck-out consecutively.

Gibson is also one of three on this “four out” list that is a member of 3000 Strikeout Club, along with Walter Johnson and Phil Niekro.

“Of the 26 players eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame who have struck out four batters in an inning, four have been elected and two were elected on the first ballot.” (2) In the past ten seasons, our current being included, there have been four pitchers from the same team to have been recorded.

(3) Of those four, which two pitchers had four consecutive strikeouts?
