Park takes aim at Open Championship glory

Golf’s wait for a genuine ”Grand Slam” (winning all four majors in a calendar year) could soon be over as the dominant force that is Inbee Park takes aim at her fourth major title of 2013 at the Women’s British Open to be broadcast exclusively live on SuperSport, starting on Thursday.

Having already won the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA Championship and the US Women’s Open, the first three majors of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), women’s world No 1 Park will attempt to firmly etch her name in golf folklore by becoming the first player in history (male or female) to win four majors in a calendar year.

The closest golf has ever come to a “Grand Slam” was in 2000 when Tiger Woods won the US Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship.

If she’s successful, her achievement would be all the more sweeter as she would have achieved it at the traditional home of golf’, the Old Course at St Andrews, the venue for this year’s Women’s Open Championship.
