Special comeback spurs Davis Shore

It wasn’t that Davis Shore won the Class A/AA state golf championship.

Shore, who holds a consensus top-five junior ranking in the world, stormed from behind to defeat Davis Armstrong of Lipscomb in a playoff at WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester in mid-October.

Shore, who shot a 3-under-par 69 on the final day, birdied the first hole of the playoff to successfully defend his state championship.

Shore is used to winning, but he admitted that the state victory was special.

CAK coach Hank Fennell said he saw Shore ramp up his game like never before as the spectacular comeback unfolded.

Fennell looks at the come-from-behind win as the continuing evolution of a player he predicts will one day play on the PGA Tour.

Amateur, and I’d like to play in a professional tournament,” Shore said.
