Storm boys win blue, girls get red at state golf tournament

Cleveland High School gave it the “old 1-2” in May’s Class 6A state golf tournament: The Storm boys repeated as state champs, while the Storm girls were runners-up.

CHS junior Dominique Galloway won medalist honors for the third year in a row after rounds of 70 both days, and her sister Jacque, an eighth-grader at Mountain View Middle School, had rounds of 77 and 78 to finish at 155, 15 shots behind her sister.

The Wildcats (675) were five shots worse as a team on the second day, while the Storm shot five strokes better, to no avail.

After being in second place, one shot behind La Cueva (317), after Monday’s round, the Storm shot four strokes better than the Bears on Tuesday, finishing with a team total of 640, three ahead of La Cueva.

It marked the sixth year in a row Rio Rancho High School had not qualified a team for state; the Rams’ last appearance there was in 2009, when they tied for third.
