Tied to ‘Panama Papers’

Swiss authorities carried out a search at the offices of European soccer’s governing body Wednesday morning following reports that UEFA signed television rights contracts with two businessmen who have since been accused of corruption.

The contracts were co-signed in 2006 by Gianni Infantino, now president of world soccer governing body FIFA, who served on UEFA’s legal team at the time, according to news reports on the millions of documents allegedly leaked from a Panamanian law firm.

UEFA sold the television rights for the Champions League, UEFA’s premier club tournament, to a company called Cross Trading, owned by Hugo Jinkis and his son, Mariano.
