LA Galaxy hire Onalfo
The club announced the hiring of LA Galaxy II coach Curt Onalfo to take over the first team Tuesday, choosing to promote from within rather than pursue a high-profile candidate from outside the organization.
Onalfo joined the Galaxy as an assistant coach on Arena’s staff in 2011 and has managed the club’s reserve team in the USL since 2014, compiling a 41-20-25 record.
Onalfo will be taking over a Galaxy team in a state of flux, with designated players Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard departing and star Landon Donovan reportedly returning to retirement.
“In addition to his experience and knowledge of Major League Soccer as both a player and a coach, Curt has an intimate understanding of the structure and culture of this club and has done a tremendous job with LA Galaxy II.
