There are always many good performances at the Cheltenham Open meeting to note for the future and this year was no different. It is hard to narrow it down to one but, if you had to take one horse away with you from that meeting, then it would probably be On The Blind Side.

He won at Aintree in October and then went on to make it two out of two at Cheltenham, storming up the hill to eventually win by just over two lengths. He had the Grade Two winner Poetic Rhythm behind him in third place and the highly regarded Vision Des Flos further back in fourth. This was an exceptional run, visually very impressive and one that looks rock solid on the form book.

In an article before the meeting took place, trainer Nicky Henderson sang the praises of his horse, and he certainly didn’t disappoint when on the track. As Henderson rightly pointed out, he has a huge future ahead of him and it is going to be very interesting to see where he goes next. He will surely step up in Grade and we will hopefully see him back out around Christmas time.

Long-term, his target is surely the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle race at the Cheltenham Festival, a race which Henderson has won in the past. He managed to have the first and second in the race back in 2011 so he knows what it takes to win and On The Blind Side looks to be capable of stepping up to that sort of company.

It is that race that the experts at Oddschecker fancy him for too and they highlighted it after his impressive outing at Cheltenham. We have seen many impressive juveniles come out early in the season and put in a good display but On The Blind Side could be one of the best so far and it is going to be great to see him go up against some more top quality rivals when we next see him on the track.

Nicky Henderson looks to have a hugely exciting novice hurdler in On The Blind Side and he is one of many huge names that he will have heading towards the Cheltenham Festival in March. This horse really could be anything and, if he continues to improve on the race track, he could turn out to be very special.
