Defending champion Cameron Smith shot a 7-under-par 65 to open a one-shot lead after the second round of the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast on Friday, as home favourite Marc Leishman moved into contention.

Starting the day four strokes adrift at Royal Pines Resort, Smith completed 36 holes with a 9 under total of 135 to sit just ahead of Australian No. 2 Leishman and Queenslander Jake Mc Leod at the European Tour co-sanctioned event.
