He was once a first-round draft pick who was on the fast track to fulfill his childhood dreams, but according to Yahoo Sports the former Indiana Pacers’ center has fallen on hard times since exiting the league in 2008.
Yahoo Sports writes the former University of Colorado star player was working at a McDonald’s restaurant to make ends meet as recently as two years ago.
“Harrison made $4.4 million before taxes during four seasons with Indiana and also played in China professionally for three seasons.
Now 32 and without a college degree, Harrison said he’s having a hard time finding a job.” After failing to produce in the NBA and playing abroad for a few seasons David found himself back in the Indianapolis area with two children to feed and a large extended family counting on him to provide.
He said of his time working at McDonald’s: According to Yahoo Sports an embarrassing incident led him to the job at McDonald’s.
Harrison was at an Indianapolis-area McDonald’s in August 2013 when his credit card was declined while trying to buy his then 4-year-old son, Dylan, a Happy Meal.
Harrison said he had a hard time working because customers would often want to talk after they recognized him or they were just fascinated by his height.
Harrison says he’s given up on basketball but hasn’t given up on finding a way to provide for his family.
