Byron Smith wins golf title
Byron Smith of Palm Desert scored the biggest victory of his professional golf career Sunday, closing with a 5-under 66 for a four-stroke victory in the Rex Hospital Open on the Web.com Tour.
The win is the first for the 33-year-old Scott, a former Cathedral City High School star, on the Web.com Tour, which awards PGA Tour berths to players based on the tour’s money list.
Scott is in his second full year on the Web.com Tour after a career on the PGA Tour Canada, where he won five tournaments.
In the final round, Smith recorded seven birdies and two bogeys, including a bogey on the final hole when Smith had all but wrapped up the title.
