Del Potro Emotionally Distraught Following Rosary Theft

Juan Martin del Potro  took part in a thrilling three set match against Richard Gasquet on Monday afternoon but was not shy to mention that he was struggling emotionally following the theft of one of his most prized possessions: his rosary, blessed by the Pope.

The World No. 5 had arrived at the Gare du Nord train station and paused to sign an autograph for a fan. During that brief span of time, his briefcase was stolen. Apart from his passport and wallet which were in the briefcase, his rosary, blessed by the new Pope in Rome this year was also in the suitcase.

The Argentine admits that since the wound is very fresh, he is yet to find a way to put the issue behind him.

“I like to play tennis. I enjoy a lot my work. But someone took some part of my life,” said a tearing del Potro. “Is really recent, I don’t know how you say it. It’s tough to don’t think about that…One of my things was the rosary. But I have a few things which means a lot from my life. I don’t have it anymore.”

Del Potro is scheduled to meet Novak Djokovic in the evening session on Thursday. The Serbian No. 1 holds a 10-3 lead in the series as well as a 3-1 lead in 2013.
