Delbarton soccer added to team tradition
Several Green Wave players were part of the inaugural New Jersey all-star team which finished third at the Beijing Cup in August, and David Donovan led the international exchange.
The team played a 4-3-3, the same as Delbarton, and key players midfielders Tyler Bell, Charles Cadena and Steven Hadley, and defender Kian Zapata were in the same positions as at home.
The Green Wave scored 59 goals overall, led by Bell with 15 and senior Andrew Ford with 11 more two more than a year ago, but far fewer than the offense-heavy 2012 team.
They also established a new tradition, as the first team in Delbarton history to win three consecutive state titles.
“We pride ourselves on tradition, and starting a new tradition of winning three state championships in a row is something special,” junior defender Brian Finn said.
