Walt Disney announced Tuesday afternoon that it is taking a minority stake in MLB Advanced Medias spin-off media company, BAMTech.
With its direct-to-consumer streaming services, data analytics and commerce management with nearly 7.5 million total paid subscribers to its clients OTT products, the investment by Disney will allow it to grow rapidly. The deal will allow ESPN to use the agile nature of BAMTech to quickly jump into the streaming of their content as more and more consumers move from the traditional television set to streaming services.
We look forward to working closely with BAMTech as we explore new ways to deliver the unmatched content of The Walt Disney Company across a variety of platforms.
Iger clearly seems to be planning to use the BAMTech platform for distributing the vast wealth of Disney content, from classic movies, to Disney television networks, to ABCs family of networks.
Bringing a multi-sport service directly to fans is an exciting opportunity that capitalizes on BAMTechs premier digital distribution platform and continues ESPNs heritage of embracing technology to create new ways to connect fans with sports, said John Skipper, ESPN President and Co-Chair, Disney Media Networks.
