Doi Sets Up Unseeded Semis

In the final match of the day, Misaki Doi edged No.5 seed Jelena Jankovic, 7-6(4), 7-5, to join Mona Barthel, Stefanie Voegele, and WTA Rising Star Alison Van Uytvanck in the semifinals of the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open.

Doi was broken serving for the match at 5-4, but had an extra gear on the former World No.1 by breaking one final time to serve out the win in just under 100 minutes.

“Strycova doesn’t give any rhythm, so it’s hard to play against her,” the WTA Rising Star admitted after the match.

“I think I focused really well on my game, I stayed calm throughout the match, served well and played really good tennis today.” Perhaps at her best indoors, Barthel will play Swiss wildcard Stefanie Voegele, who won the toughest match of the day against lucky loser Laura Siegemund, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
