Ex-US Open champ retires from golf

Wellington – Former US Open champion Michael Campbell has retired from tournament golf at the age of 46 and will concentrate on coaching instead, New Zealand press reports said.

“Not give away golf forever, just put it on the backburner and focus on other things and what I’m doing right now is focusing on golf academies around the world.

Campbell’s US Open victory at Pinehurst 10 years ago him the first New Zealander to win a major since Bob Charles in the 1963 British Open.
