Gallant a factor all over the field for U16 Wolves

BMO Western United Wolves U16 player Evan Gallant, left, takes part in a team practice in this undated photo.

It’s fair to say Evan Gallant has won the trust of BMO U16 Western United Wolves coach Brent Watkins, since the 14-year-old has been placed everywhere on the field during the Wolves’ provincial under-16 boys soccer league campaign, whether it’s fullback, midfielder or striker.

“I’m used to playing all (positions) now, so it doesn’t really change that much for me,” said Gallant, noting he usually finds out where he’ll be lining up not long before the opening whistle.

The son of Corner Brook’s Rob and Renee, Gallant was actually born in Mississauga, Ont., but the family moved to Corner Brook when he was still a kid of about four or five years old.

Gallant, who begins Grade 10 at Corner Brook Regional High School next week, said he’s learned a lot over the summer playing soccer at the provincial level.

The Wolves face off against the last-place Conception Bay North (1-12-2) this evening in a semifinal contest at King George V in St.

The immediate key for the Wolves, said Gallant, is to not overlook C.B.N., despite their poor record.

The U16 Wolves aren’t the only Western crew in the hunt for a provincial championship this weekend, as the second-place U14 Wolves (5-8-2) of the U14 boys provincial league’s Division 2 battle the third-place St.
