Golfers of all abilities take on Flamborough’s tricky course

Almost 40 pupils, representing six teams from local schools took part in the Bridlington Schools Sports Partnership Super Sixes Golf Competition at Flamborough Head Golf Club last Tuesday.

The competition saw golfers of all abilities compete in either a seven-hole Texas Scramble event for new players or a 10-hole Stableford competition for those with a handicap, with team scores based on combined scores from the two events.

The individual Stableford saw some excellent scoring, with Will Corton of Hornsea School taking the prize for the best score with 28 points over 10 holes, equivalent to eight-under-par.

Henry Howarth of Bridlington School, recorded the best gross with an impressive total of 37 shots – level to par – while finishing secondnd overall with 25 points ahead of Headlands School’s Ashley Porter in third with 23 points.

In the Texas Scramble event, Headlands School’s team of M Collins, K Walker and F Bennett took first place with a five-under-par total.

Teams from Hornsea School took both second and third place with team scores of 2.3 under par and 1.3 under par after deduction of handicaps.

In the overall team scores, Hornsea ran out as winners by more than seven shots with a combined total of 9.3 under par.

Headlands School finished second on two-under-par with Bridlington School behind with a score of 6.7-over-par.

The day was a great success and enjoyed by all. Credit must go to the players and teaching staff of the many schools that attended as well as the golf club for hosting and providing all the facilities for the event and PGA Coach Ivan Oliver and his supporting staff for organising, managing and running the competitions.
