Injured Soldiers get Free Golf Clubs
Jesse Cazaux, golf is different since he only plays about five times a year.
Regardless of how much or how little they play, the two Army soldiers will have the latest tools as Callaway Golf custom-fitted them Monday for a new set of clubs that, once finished, will be sent free to their homes.
Justin Johns, of the PGA Tour Birdies for the Brave, said Callaway does 15 club fittings at tour stops each year providing free clubs to two members of the military each time.
After being fitted in a Callaway trailer, the two men headed to Sea Island’s driving range where they tried a variety of clubs and got some coaching from Callaway technical representative Jeff Austin, a former teaching pro, and from sales representative Nick Amann.
In addition to the new clubs and a golf bag, Cazaux and LeCara got hats available only to PGA Tour players, golf balls and other Callaway gear.
Among those they met were three volunteers who came from Bluffton, S.C., where they host a tournament each year to raise money for Birdies for the Brave through the Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes.
The foundation has no paid staff, said volunteer Sal Zingales, and it hosts a fund-raising tournament each year at Hampton Hall and Belfair Plantation, two golf clubs in Bluffton.
If the Cazaux or LeCara want to try out another course, Zingales gave them the opportunity with an invitation to Hampton Hall for next year’s fund-raising tournament.
