Lady Vikings falls to Polk, Madison in conference soccer matchups
Avery Lady Vikings soccer hoped to snap its recent losing skid last week, but a pair of top conference foes had other plans when the Big Red hosted Polk County on Monday, March 23, and traveled to take on Madison on Wednesday, March 25.
Avery and Polk were scoreless for much of the first half before Polk struck quickly with goals in the 27th and 28th minutes, respectively.
Avery managed five shot attempts in the contest, forcing five saves from PCHS keeper Kara Overholt.
The Lady Patriots struck immediately to take a 1-0 advantage, when MHS’s Elissa Hurley scored on a fast breakaway and slipped a shot past Avery keeper Reagan Dellinger in the match’s first minute.
The score remained tied for the rest of the first half and through the first 10 minutes of the second half, before Madison’s Hurley scored her second goal in the 50th minute for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
