Lilly among 5 to be inducted into state soccer Hall of Fame
Wilton’s Kristine Lilly is one of five individuals who will be inducted into the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame.
The other four are Tony Carvalho, who played at UConn from 1975-79, the late Tom Gray, who coached girls soccer at Tolland, former Hartford women’s coach Austin Daniels and James Lyman, a member of the 1981 UConn national championship team.
Lilly, who won three state championships while at Wilton, won two World Cup titles as a member of the U.S. national team as well as two Olympic gold medals.
Her 352 caps for her national team are the most in the world.
She also won four straight NCAA titles while at North Carolina.
She was the U.S. Soccer Player of the Year in 1996, 2005 and 2006 and World Player of the Year runner-up in 2006.
She was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2012 and finished with 130 goals and 105 assists for the national team.
The five will be inducted at a dinner Jan. 26 at the Marriott in Farmington.
