Longtime Kapaun Mt. Carmel soccer coach dies

Carmel soccer coach, and figure in the Wichita soccer community, Alan Shepherd, died Friday night from a heart attack.

Heise says Anthony Cantele will coach Kapaun’s boys soccer team for the remainder of the season.

Carmel Catholic High School community mourns the tragic loss of Alan Shepherd, boys and girls head soccer coach and KMC teacher.

Coach Shepherd was the KMC head soccer coach for 24 years and led the soccer teams to numerous city, regional and state titles.

He coached thousands of students over his expansive career, which also included coaching teams at Friends University, Newman University and Wichita-area youth leagues.

Dan Lorimer, KMC Chaplain, met with soccer players Saturday morning to help them process the loss of their coach.

Effective immediately, KMC assistant soccer coach Anthony Cantele is acting head coach.
