McIlroy to donate €1.2million for young cancer battlers in Mayo
GOLF superstar Rory McIlroy is to offer young cancer victims respite from their disease in the Mayo village that hosted his dream wedding to Erica Stoll last April.
McIlroy’s Rory Foundation is to donate 1.2million to the Daisy Lodge project.
“When we hosted the DDF Irish Open at Royal County Down two years ago, that was when the first Daisy Lodge was opened.
The second Daisy Lodge facility is just the start of an expansion plan across Ireland by the Cancer For Children Fund and backed by the McIlroy organization.
McIlroy is also keen to grow his Foundation’s reach beyond the island of Ireland and yesterday confirmed its work with the Sport Changes Life organization will now expand to Dubai.
Speaking in Belfast ahead of today’s opening round in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, McIlroy revealed how a trip to Haiti with Unicef changed his life.
With a percentage of all ticket sales from this week’s DDF Irish Open going to the Rory Foundation, McIlroy’s status as tournament host has helped to sell almost 100,000 entry passes so far.
The inspiration for his charitable work can be traced back to McIlroy’s parents, Gerry and Rosie who will join his wife Erica in Port stewart this week.
