Microsoft greenlights unscripted soccer show for Xbox

Microsoft has greenlit an unscripted street soccer show for Xbox called Every Street United, according to a new report from Deadline.

It would be the first reality show from Xbox Entertainment Studios, the business unit established last year and led by former CBS TV executive Nancy Tellem.

Every Street United will reportedly span eight 30-minute episodes that will each profile a local street soccer player in countries like the United States, Spain, Holland, France, Argentina, Brazil, Ghana, and South Korea.

Details are still being worked on, according to Deadline, though it is possible that the final episode will be shot at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. This finale may feature the eight players going head-to-head in a 4 vs. 4 match.

30 For 30 filmmaker Jonathan Hock is reportedly on board to direct “a portion” of the series, from Mandalay Sports Media.

According to the report, Every Street United will target the Xbox platform’s “core young male demo” and feature “interactive components,” though these were not specified.

Microsoft corporate vice president Phil Spencer said last month that Microsoft was exploring “hundreds” of ideas for original Xbox video programming and that an announcement about the first offering would be made “pretty soon.”

A Microsoft representative told GameSpot, “This series has not been announced and we do not have any specifics to share at this time. We’re excited to be working on several projects and look forward to providing additional details soon.”

The only Xbox One TV programming announced thus far is the Halo show produced by Saving Private Ryan director Steven Spielberg and the upcoming Quantum Break show that will tie in to the game.

The Xbox One launches in 13 territories across the world on November 22 for $500.
