Penn State players making final preparations
Since the season ended in late November the trio of Penn State standouts invited to this week’s NFL Scouting Combine were busy figuring out who their agent would be and where they would train.
Allen Robinson, DaQuan Jones and John Urschel all decided to leave State College and train elsewhere, something that allowed them to focus solely on football since early January.
Jones said scouts told him to focus on the many finer details of being a better pass rusher, something that the 323-pound tackle was already working on at the training facility.
Urschel, Penn State’s former right guard, is training in San Diego and focusing on football around the clock.
For Jones and Robinson training away from Penn State means putting their undergraduate degrees on hold.
Jones said he initially considered staying at Penn State to train but once a new coaching staff came in and former strength coach Craig Fitzgerald followed Bill O’Brien to the Houston Texans, Jones said he figured it would be best for him to work with his agent to find a facility where he could concentrate on increasing his draft stock.
Jones plans to return to Penn State after the combine where he will train on campus leading up to pro day on April 8.
Urschel plans to workout at pro day, participating in the offensive line drills at the very least and Robinson can choose to workout again too.
