River Dell girls soccer still adjusting after losing Rachel Sorkenn to season-ending injury
While dealing with the initial shock of losing its star striker, River Dell was fortunate enough to find solace as center midfielder Lucy Almberg picked up her level of play and took over the main leadership role.
“It’s like I lost my star quarterback and star running back within three games,” said Grenz, who has coached the girls program at River Dell for the last 13 years.
One of the ways that River Dell has acclimated to playing without Sorkenn and Almberg has been to open up a more aggressive attack and rely more on its defense to pick up the slack on any quick transitions coming its way.
If anything gets past that trio, River Dell also has the luxury of relying on Rachel Sorkenn’s twin sister, Alison, who has been starting in net for the last three years for River Dell.
