Small sample surprisingly positive for Phils
The Phillies are 3-2 after Saturday night’s win against the Washington Nationals.
Here are three things that went right for the Phillies the first week of the season.
Galvis entered Saturday’s game batting .385 (5 or 13).
Closer Jonathan Papelbon created a stir last week when he told a Boston newspaper he still felt more connected to the Red Sox than he does the Phillies.
Entering Saturday, Papelbon had 108 saves for the Phillies – five away from breaking the club record of 112 held by Jose Mesa.
Harang, 36, struck out eight and did not allow a run in 6 innings against the Boston Red Sox.
Williams, 33, struck out six and allowed just one run in six innings as the Phillies beat the Nationals 4-1 Friday night.
Ace pitcher Cole Hamels allowed four home runs to the Boston Red Sox in his first start.
But for at least the season’s first week, the Phillies have given their fans a reason to keep watching.
