Spieth to defend Australian Open title

Open organisers are hopeful of signing top-ranked local stars Jason Day and Adam Scott to take on Jordan Spieth after the Texan star agreed to defend his title this year.

Golf Australia announced Spieth had committed to playing in the Open at the Australian Golf Course in November after the US star won the Stonehaven Cup at Royal Sydney.

Jordan Spieth from holds the Stonehaven Cup trophy after he won the Australian Open last year.

“The Emirates Australian Open seems to grow in stature among the world’s players every year and I really enjoy playing in front of the enthusiastic galleries in Sydney.

“He has been a great champion and ambassador of the Emirates Australian Open and, if you think back to his late charge in 2015, he could easily be playing for his fourth title in a row.
