The New York Mets’ blunders
If you ever needed a sign that the New York Mets’ season should just start, yesterday was the day.
But if Harvey was out of whack amid this circus act the Mets put out on the field yesterday, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes was the whack job and the show’s ringleader.
Reed, the ball hit under the base of the wall and Cespedes looked to the umpire, as if signaling that he couldn’t get to it, which would make it a ground-rule double.
However, there was only one problem: the ball was totally within the grasp of the Cespedes, but he acted indifferent and made the decision not to grab it.
But what made matters worse and possibly even more embarrassing was when Cespedes tried to plead his case to the umpire and the ump simply reached underneath the padding and rolled the ball out himself.
I said, ‘Of course I could grab that if I stick my hand in there and pull it out, yes, I guess I could grab it.’
