Toronto FC president Bill Manning envisions a future where head coach Greg Vanney is leading the US men’s national team, should the job ever open up.

One of the longest-tenured coaches in MLS, Vanney’s latest contract is due to expire at the end of 2020 but there is little danger of club and coach parting any time soon.

“I believe very strongly that the longer a coach can stay with you – especially when you have a really good coach like Greg – just the stronger your organization’s going to be,” Manning said.

“I look at the top teams in the league right now, you have Kansas City in the West and Seattle, both coaches have been there for quite some time: Peter Vermes, Brian Schmetzer.
