Miles helps her team win

For Middleton senior Morgan Miles, Monday’s Crusade Fore a Cure girls golf tournament really wasn’t about birdies and bogeys.

Just three or four days before the season began, Miles learned her mother’s cancer had returned.

“It definitely was fresh in my mind when I started the season and it has been for every single round since,” Miles said after her round at Maple Bluff Country Club.

To have my mom (Rae Miles) watch the whole time I didn’t know if she would be able to.

The schools there were 16 complete teams among the 19 schools competing raised $17,000, said Madison Edgewood coach Peggy Gierhart, whose team played host to the event.

Morgan Miles said she raised about $3,500 in her mom’s honor.

That led to the outpouring of emotions from many of the girls, particularly when Miles talked about her mother’s serious diagnosis.

“You get through each day as it goes and you make the best of it,” said Miles, who explained her mother had breast cancer and that is has returned and metastasized to her liver and bones.
