NFL Continues To Disregard Rules Against Using Helmet As Weapon.

If you think youve heard this one before, you’re right but, yes, the NFL continues to disregard player safety rules it made such a point of trumpeting at its March meetings.

Yet no penalty was called on Michel even though the play is another textbook example of the kind of play the league allegedly wants to winnow from the game.

The Rule: As approved by NFL clubs in March, it is a foul if a player lowers his head to initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent.

Contact does not have to be to an opponents head or neck area lowering the head and initiating contact to an opponents torso, hips, and lower body, is also a foul.

Player lowers his helmet to establish a linear body posture prior to initiating and making contact with the helmet
