Yankees settle in for short trip

West Coast trips are always a bit strange, but this one in particular is an odd change of pace just as the rhythm of the regular season was starting to feel normal.

That means there’s not really enough time to get fully adjusted to the time zone, and all three of these games will be played at 10:05 p.m.

My guess would be that Ryan will take Pineda’s spot to give the Yankees a full four-man bench and a true backup shortstop.

I realize Yangervis Solarte has played shortstop, but he really has very little time at the position.

He played just 30 games at shortstop in the minors compared to 325 at second base and 137 at third base.

Speaking of Ryan’s defense, it’s going to be interesting to see how Joe Girardi uses Ryan during late innings.

From Brian Heyman, here’s what Girardi said about the rotation before yesterday’s game: “It’s a little bit beat up right now, but I’m still optimistic about it.

He was able to get a simulated game in Wednesday, which allowed us to build him up a little bit.

It’s pretty good timing for the Yankees because Freese was finally starting to hit a little bit.
