Renaissance wins Chapter PGA Stableford

Jay Westerlund of The Club at Renaissance won the Southwest Chapter PGA’s Stableford Championship, the first major of 2016, at Forest Glen in Naples on May 25.

Westerlund, the director of golf and membership, compiled 48 points, then held on by three points after a second-round 37 gave him a total of 85.

1 and 2, chipped in for birdie, chipped in for par, and added two more birdies on his first nine.

Justin McCarraher of Fiddlesticks was fourth with a 77, and Justin Smith of Bonita Bay Club and Chris Trout of Chris Trout Golf tied for fifth with 72 points, followed by Mark Doss of Gulf Harbour (7th, 71), and Justin Bertsch of Hideout, John Calabria of Grey Oaks and Scott Gottko of Renaissance with 70 points.

Women’s Golf Day: PGA Tour Superstore and Golfsmith in Naples are both holding free events for women on Tuesday, June 7.

Drive, Chip, Putt program: A pair of junior teaching academies are having specific training programs for the Drive, Chip and Putt competition.

Impact Zone Golf at Tiburon is having a Drive, Chip, and Putt training program for juniors preparing for the competition that will be held in Naples later this month.

Junior Golf Performance Academy at Quail Creek also is having a training program beginning this Saturday, and continuing each Saturday through July 9 from 9:30 a.m.

Vineyards Junior Camp: Dates, Tuesday through Friday June 14-17, June 21-24, June 28-July 1, July 5-8, July 12-15, July 19-22, July 26-29, Aug.
